Paintsteps

Plan the painting in four steps.

Drawing from the photo is free. Reducing to contours uses a generation credit (trial or Premium), as do block-in, volume and texture.

How to use

Start with a photo of the subject (upload or camera). Work the four steps in order.

Drawing: point the camera at your paper and fill the dashed guide. Marks that match the subject stay quiet. A slight miss turns yellow; a larger miss turns red. Blank paper is ignored. Use the faint ghost if you want a whisper of the model, and tap four corners if the paper is not square to the frame. You can reduce the subject to the contours of its inherent shapes (a line drawing of the big forms) and draw from that, or keep the original photo.

The block-in serves to structure a composition as an ensemble of basic, simple shapes and as a study in values.

Volume and texture then take the same photo into colour and light, then surface.

Upload a photo or take one of the subject.
